Saraswati Puja

Goa Institute of Management celebrated Saraswati Puja with great reverence in traditional fervour on 28th January 2012 and 29th January 2012. Students thronged the Hostel 1 common room which was decorated with lights, flowers and the traditional floor paintings-alpanas to offer prayers and seek blessings of the Goddess of knowledge, music and arts.

The festival is associated with celebration of arts, science and crafts because Saraswati is the consort of Lord Brahma and is the Goddess of wisdom. She represents Shakti and creativity. Students on this day seek strength, well-being and wisdom from Saraswati Ma. Her idyllic presence on the campus symbolised the power of knowledge in full grandeur which inspired many minds. On this auspicious day soon to be investment bankers stood humbled (that’s a first) with their finance bibles in hand seeking blessings from the divinity. Future marketers were clutching their Kotlers and there were a sizeable number of those who even brought their favourite novels.

The entire program was arranged by the students- Decorating the idol and the common room, getting a pandit ji, preparing Prasad etc. Every activity was chartered out (in true MBA fashion) and teams of volunteers were delegated responsibility for its completion (again in true MBA fashion).
To add to all the celebration the Health Club arranged for a heavenly bengali Lunch which was relished by all. For the information of the initiated- there was khichudi, Bhaat, Chatney, chholar daal for main course and a round of shinni for dessert (are the Bengalis paying attention?).

A small puja was held on Sunday morning (29th January) as well and prasad that was made by the students themselves was distributed to all, following which the students left for the immersion of the idol.
